Corn Palace Festival Vendors


2010 Vendor Application

Below you will find our general vendor information as well as an application for you to submit if you are interested in being a vendor during Corn Palace Festival 2010. Once the committee has reviewed the applications, contracts will be sent out to selected vendors. We do limit vending of similar items, so submit your application quickly.

The Corn Palace Festival dates and hours for 2010 are as follows:

  • Set-up is on Tuesday, August 24 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Food vendors must be in place by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24.
  • Specialty vendors must be checked in by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24.
  • Wednesday our midway rides will begin at *3:30 p.m.
  • Starting Thursday, August 26, vendors are asked to participate during the hours of *11:00 a.m. to *11:00 p.m.
  • Tear down will be on Sunday, August 29 at *10:00 p.m.

    (* This may vary depending on the weather, events held in the Corn Palace, and crowds.)

Spaces are available in 20 x 17-foot increments. By participating in the Corn Palace Festival as a vendor you agree to pay $250.00 for the rental of a Main Street booth space. Additional space will be sold in 10-foot increments. There will be an additional charge for electricity. You are required to bring your own extension cords to reach the electrical panels; cords will not be provided. Please be aware that the electrical panels may move to different locations from year to year. No stakes or pegs of any kind are allowed to be driven into the blacktop. Sandbags work best to hold down tents. You are responsible to secure your tents and provide your own sandbags as needed.

No exhibitor/concessionaire will be allowed to set up unless the space to be occupied has been paid in full by August 1, 2010.

Please complete, sign and submit the application below. You may be asked to mail us a photo of your display/booth (if you have participated in our Corn Palace Festival before, you will not need to submit a photo).

Corn Palace Festival Vendor Information

Set Up/Tear Down
Set-up will begin for food vendors on Tuesday, August 24 after 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.  Food vendors must be in your space by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24.  Setup may start again on Wednesday, August 25 for specialty vendors only and will need to be finished by 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 25 or you will forfeit your space.  Upon arrival, before setting up, it is your responsibility to check in with the table located outside in front of the Corn Palace (weather permitting), or the box office (located in the front lobby of the Corn Palace) for proper placement of your rental space.  Every effort will be made to help you as quickly as possible and we thank you for your patience.  Any exhibitors forced to arrive late should notify the Corn Palace Box Office at 605-995-8430, Mark Schilling at 605-995-8427 or Janice Peterson at 605-995-8499 immediately to guarantee space.  Tear down will be on Sunday, August 29 at 10:00 p.m.

Licensing
All food and beverage providers MUST be licensed and comply with state and local health regulations prior to the festival.  Contact the Health Department by August 1st.

Maintenance
You are responsible for cleaning the tables and grounds under and immediately surrounding your tent or trailer continuously during the entire event. All concessionaires who are cooking with grease are responsible for proper disposal of the grease. All deliveries must be made before 10:00 a.m. No vehicles are allowed on Main Street after that time.

Tax Information
You must have a South Dakota Sales Tax Number. The South Dakota Department of Revenue issues temporary permits for the duration of the Festival. The South Dakota Department of Revenue can answer questions you may have regarding sales tax. They can be reached at:

A representative will come to your booth to issue a temporary permit and at the end of the festival they will also come back around to collect before you close down.

Security
The Corn Palace Festival is not responsible for the security or protection of the property and merchandise of exhibitors and concessionaires. Each exhibitor and concessionaire should take precautions to avoid theft or damage to such property.

Local and National Fire Codes
Fire lanes identified along the midway shall remain open at all times for emergency apparatus. High-pressure cylinders, including LP Gas cylinders shall be securely fastened to prevent tipping. At least one 40-B:C rated fire extinguisher is required for all food vendors and where flammable or combustible liquids are used, stored or dispensed.

Plumbing Codes
South Dakota State Plumbing Code requires all water connections to be protected against back-siphonage and back-flow. All wastewater must be disposed of in the sanitary sewer, NOT in the drain at the intersections along the curbs (storm sewer). If you have any questions, please call the Public Works Department of the City of Mitchell at 605-995-8433.

Insurance Requirements for All Vendors
The EXHIBITOR/CONCESSIONAIRE shall indemnify and hold harmless the CITY OF MITCHELL and its agents, employees and volunteers from and against all claims, damages, losses and expenses, including but not limited to attorney's fees, arising out of or resulting from (i) the conduct or management of the Premises or of any business therein, (ii) any act, omission, or negligence of the EXHIBITOR/CONCESSIONAIRE or the partners, directors, officers, agents, employees, invitees or contractors of the EXHIBITOR/CONCESSIONAIRE (iii) any accident, injury or damage whatsoever occurring in or at the Premises. EXHIBITOR/CONCESSIONAIRE hereby expressly indemnifies the CITY OF MITCHELL for the consequences of any negligent act or omission of the CITY OF MITCHELL, its agents, employees, and volunteers, unless such act or omission constitutes gross negligence or intentional misconduct.

EXHIBITOR/CONCESSIONAIRE shall maintain occurrence based Commercial General Liability Insurance or equivalent form with a limit of not less than $2,000,000.00 each occurrence.  If such insurance contains a general aggregate limit, it shall apply separately to this agreement or be no less than two times the occurrence limit.  Such insurance shall add the City of Mitchell, and its employees and volunteers as additional insureds.
